So, you’ve decided this is YOUR year. The year you finally make the change you’ve been putting off.
The year you finally change your diet, exercise more, move to a new city, date someone different, read more books, pick up a new hobby, and become the happiest, healthiest, best version of you.
Not to rain on your parade but here’s the thing, if your only aspirations are to change what your life LOOKS like, it’s probably not going to change at all. You have to change what it feels like too.
You can’t expect a different internal world just because you changed your external world. This is because our desires run deeper than the surface level of the goals we set out to achieve when a new year is upon us. We think we want more money but what we want is to feel more abundant. We think we want a new relationship but what we really want is to feel more loved. We think we want to travel but what we really want is to feel free. We think we want to lose weight but what we really want is to feel more confident. See the pattern?
We have this idea in our heads that if we change what our lives look like, then how we feel will change too. That’s why year after year we throw ourselves into the same list of resolutions, checklists, and goals that we may or may not achieve… and we base our self worth off of whether or not we achieve them.
We are trying to shifts things instead of ourselves.
In reality life works better the other way around… when we change how we FEEL on the inside then the way our lives look will change too because the way we show up for ourselves changes.
When I love my body I want to take care of it more, so I eat better and exercise which changes the way my body looks.
When I decide to feel abundant and WORTHY of that abundance, I feel confident enough to go after opportunities that I may have let slip from my hands before.
When I love myself, I allow myself to be loved by others without basing all of my self worth on whether they choose to or not.
We’re way more likely to commit to change when we enjoy the process of change instead of chasing an end-goal. Love the whole journey, and not just the destination (I know….we’ve all head that cliché). But seriously, change the way something feels and your entire life will shift. What you value will shift, your perspective will shift, your motivation will shift, your mindset will shift.
So as you’re starting to reflect on 2022, and make new and improved plans for 2023, a really solid start would be to ask yourself,
“WHY am I setting this goal? What will accomplishing this goal make me feel?”
Then start to create daily routines that will help you embody that feeling before you even make it to your goal. Write affirmations that will change what you believe yourself to be worthy of. Journal on what it means to be an XYZ type of person. Reflect on what you think you deserve, then start to rewire your mind to believe you deserve MORE.
Will you make $1,000,000 in a week because you decided to feel more worthy of abundance? Probably not. But you’ll start to show up in life as the version of you who deserves to make $1,000,000 a week, and that will change your life SO much more. You’ll chase more opportunities, put yourself in the right rooms with the right people, show up to meetings in a higher vibrational frequency, and ATTRACT that abundance from within.
Sure it sounds a little woo woo. But it can’t hurt.
When you change your mind, you change your life… not the other way around.
Make 2023 your bitch.
Here’s some journaling prompts to get you started on reflecting and goal setting:
Remember, the only thing that ever truly gets in the way of you accomplishing your goals is YOU. It’s not the relationship. It’s not lack of time. It’s not money. It’s not work. It’s you, your fear, and what you prioritize.
So what are you choosing to prioritize this year?
